How to calculate brick
Find the wall's face area in square feet (length × height), then multiply by 7, the number of standard modular bricks per square foot once you allow for a 3/8-inch mortar joint. Round up and add 5–10% for breakage and cuts.
Bricks = Wall area ft² × 7 (standard modular brick + 3/8" mortar)
Worked example
A garden wall 10 ft long and 10 ft high (100 ft²).
- Area = 10 × 10 = 100 ft²
- Bricks = 100 × 7 = 700 bricks
Result: 700 bricks (order ~770 to allow 10% waste)
